Trucian Ostheimer, MD
Dr. Trucian Ostheimer is a board-certified, fellowship-trained ophthalmologist specializing in vitreoretinal surgery and uveitis. He cares for patients with a broad range of disorders, including complex conditions that may require both medical and surgical treatment. He is committed to providing thoughtful, evidence-based care while incorporating the latest advances in medical and surgical ophthalmology. At the heart of Dr. Ostheimer’s approach to medicine is a commitment to treating every patient with respect, compassion, and understanding. He takes the time to listen, explain complex diagnoses and treatment options, and partner with his patients to make informed decisions about their care.
Dr. Ostheimer earned his Bachelor of Arts in Biomedical Humanities from Hiram College, graduating Summa Cum Laude, and received his Medical Degree from The Ohio State University College of Medicine, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. His commitment to compassionate patient care was recognized during medical school when his classmates elected him Co-President of the Gold Humanism Society. He was also inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Following medical school, Dr. Ostheimer completed his internship at St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, Illinois, where he was selected by his colleagues as Transitional Intern of the Year.
Following his internship, Dr. Ostheimer completed his ophthalmology residency at the Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary at the University of Illinois Chicago. He subsequently pursued two subspecialty fellowships, developing complementary expertise in the medical and surgical management of complex eye disease. He completed a two-year fellowship in Ocular Immunology and Uveitis at the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, followed by a two-year fellowship in Vitreoretinal Surgery at the University of Washington in Seattle. During his advanced specialty training, Dr. Ostheimer contributed to the peer-reviewed medical literature on a variety of topics in uveitis and vitreoretinal disease and participated in multiple clinical trials investigating new treatments for uveitis. His involvement in clinical research has helped him remain current with emerging treatments and advances in the field.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Ostheimer’s greatest joy is spending time with his family. He and his wife, Dr. Kelly Bui, a fellow ophthalmologist and medical retina specialist at Washington Eye Surgeons, have two daughters.
